If you don’t take care of yourself, don’t be surprised when issues appear.

I’m rarely self-righteous about anything. I like a drink, I smoke now and again, I like a pizza, and I pretty much think people have the right to do what they want with their bodies.

However, people who get blitzed on a Friday and Saturday, eat nothing but junk food, never drink water, and never exercise then wonder why they are overweight and have so many health problems.

This applies to mental health too.

Let’s be clear – If you have depression or anxiety then you have depression or anxiety, and a good diet/exercise etc. won’t cure it. However, taking care of yourself will almost definitely make it FAR less likely for an attack to come on, plus you probably won’t be weighed down with physical health issues either.

The real warning signs is when your issues start to become outwardly toxic. I have a Facebook acquaintance and it’s painfully apparent she is suffering from extremely low self esteem, insecurity, and depression. Again, she gets drunk every weekend, no exercise, no mention of nutrition, and has a over reliance on snake oil methods like healing crystals or other new age holistic bullshit. The issue is that in the last few years I’ve seen very snipey posts coming from her. Things like body shaming videos and generally being incredibly judgemental (she is very overweight herself).

It’s obvious that she’s hit that place where the only validation she can get now is self-validation, and putting others down is a very easy way to get that. She also posts a lot of passive-aggressive memes and vague, unprovoked comments like “I don’t give a fuck if you like me or not, I am who I am” or something similar. The thing is that it’s more than likely down to paranoia, and these types of posts will be subconsciously directed at her herself.

It’s hard to take care of yourself, it really is. There is nothing worse than facing down a workout session and you are feeling really low and shitty about yourself. You’ve no energy and you just want to sit and eat lovely Jaffa Cakes. The problem is that if you give in the you’ll feel twice as bad afterwards when the guilt takes over.

Trust me I’ve been there!

However, no matter how you are feeling, the responsibility still lies with you and you alone. Help is always welcome and should be used, but at the end of the day, YOU are the one who has to get up and exercise, YOU are the one who has to take 5 minutes and count how many calories you’re having, YOU have to make a stand and say “I’m not drinking tonight”, YOU are the one who has to make sure you get that 3-4 litres of  boring-ass water down your swallower every single day, and YOU have to find the path that will give you the positive validation that you need to stop yourself from becoming a bitter, defensive, and resentful person.

We all have excuses for not taking care of ourselves and life ALWAYS gets in the way, but no-one else is going to do it for us, so we can’t blame anyone else when we hit the hurdles.

If I were King – Rearranging the working week

conan-the-barbarian-throne-wallpaper-4

People often say what they don’t like about society but it’s rare that anyone comes up with any solutions. This is often true of life in general as well but since the current unelected Tory government seems completely work obsessed then what could be a good alternative?

Mineral vs Tap water

bottled-water-vs-tap-water
As I sit here grumbling with half guilt and half frustration at not being able to do a workout today due to an extremely painful pinched nerve in my neck/shoulder I figured I’d put my time to some use and talk about the best thing for humans since life itself.
